This client call us to make this dream a reality. They discussed making the deck bigger with more room for the extended family to sit and relax.

We began by extending the deck to make it bigger and more square shaped.

We then install a bench sit at one end of the deck and another standing bench/bar at other end. Which is great for entertaining.

Then we installed 3 5.4m long solid Merbau tread steps on galvanised stringers giving plenty of additional seating area.

The finished result was amazing and the client (and the immediate family) are very happy with results.

For many people ‘life is a deck’. Sitting on the deck with a coldie after a hard days work, makes it all worthwhile.

Ahh.. this is living!

This is how ‘Everyday life’ is now for our latest happy customer.

However, wind back the clock on this job, things where a little bit different.

When we arrived we found an old deck with non-compiling wooden hand rail that was totally unsafe to walk on.

First begins the repairs. We figured we could not salvage much of the old deck, so we striped away everything including the suspended joists.

We installed a new set of H3 LVL suspended Joists to make the deck save again.

Then we installed 90mm merbau(hardwood) decking with a screw-less system called Klevaclip this gives air flow between underside of decking board and top of joist.

With the safety rails we went with 90mm x 90mm Merbau posts and a Merbau top rail. Then added a modern stainless-steel cable for the remaining handrails.

The deck now complies with Australian standards and also looks amazing.

The customer is so happy. Now they have a usable deck on the eastern side of house for that morning coffee in winter or cold beer on a summer’s afternoon.

Deck Repairs and Restorations at Wallsend Newcastle – Best Deck Renovation Ever!

It didn’t start out that way. As an example, there was originally a very old deck with a non-safety compliant wooden handrail out back where the occupants were reluctant to spent much time.

This is where Rook Building was called upon to help make things right again. They have done many decks before. So they knew exactly what to do.

For starters they striped off the handrail and the decking board. After repairing the joist and making everything safe again, they began the installation of 90mm Merbau. This famous hardwood timber decking is installed with a screw-less system called Klevaclip. This system gives perfect airflow between the underside of the decking board and top of the joist.

Merbau is a naturally durable material and great for construction. For this reason, we went with a 90 x 90mm Merbau post and finished it of smartly with a modern stainless-steel cable for the handrail.

Looks great, and now complies with Australian standards.

The entrance to the deck a brand new Aluminium sliding door was installed with heat reduction glass. Finished off with a Merbau threshold to match the Merbau deck.

The end result, a nice winter deck overlooking the Hunter Valley Mountains.

Veranda Rescue and Deck Renovation at Cessnock Hunter Valley – Now a Cool Merbau Deck

This is a deck renovation we did in Cessnock in the Hunter Valley.

The old veranda had collapsed compressed flooring with tiles, which had become dangerous and ugly. The customer need it gone.

We set to work an replaced the joists with H3 treated pine and repair the bearers were required.

We then installed 90mm Merbau(hardwood) decking with a screwless system called klevaclip, which gives air-flow between underside of decking board and top of joist.

We also need to cut rotten post and install new galvanised stirrups.

It also looks great with minimum screws or nails

Wooden Deck Installation and Stunning Stair Case at Northcott Drive Kotara – Newcastle – in the Hunter Valley

This property is on a very sloped block so they knew from the start it would be a bit of a challenge.

The deck was built with multiple levels and incorporated a nice stairs case to utilize the space efficiently.

Then the deck was covered with hardwood (Merbau decking boards) using a screw less and nail less system. (We did use some screws at stairs)

The job was very difficult to execute, but turned out a very satisfying job to see completed at the end.

The customer is now very happy that they have nice easy access to their backyard and gained use-able entertainment space.
